F.O.C.U.S – Follow One Course Until Success; John Dumas, EoFire

May 2016, thirteen years after graduating with my undergraduate degree, I graduated again with an MBA. My journey began nearly three years earlier with a simple desire to be better for my family. Looking back, I didn’t know what I was getting into working full time, kids, small business, and now school. Every time someone would ask “How do you do it,” my answer would always be the same, one day at a time.

Work – I work full time as an engineer and have for 10 years now. I enjoy my work, but more importantly my co-workers. Several have cheered me on through the semesters, knowing that I would make it to the end even if I wasn’t always sure.

Kids – They started as an infant and a toddler, now a toddler and a preschooler. You do homework when they are asleep. You play and read to them when they are awake. Being a schedule person helped me to juggle kid routine with homework.

Martial Arts – Our martial arts school has gone through a variety of changes including students and location alike. Though I wasn’t physically there as much as I would like, it has grown through the merits of our team and martial arts family.

Family & Friends – The biggest support system a person could have. Helping with kids meant that I could be in two places at once. There was homework time, but also a healthy mix of family time and hang-out time. The short breaks between semesters increasingly meant more as the semesters added up.

To the next person considering taking a journey – yes do it – through the power of F.O.C.U.S.
